I was raised in a single parent christian home. The majority of our family time was spent in church. Being primarily exposed to the culture and ways of church life, it(the church) molded for me as a young man what was attractive, and sexy. Don't get me wrong I dig a lady in jeans a nice shirt, heels and gooey lips, but the kick pleat in a skirt worn by a woman who has the regal walk of a queen, or the poised individual with puffed sleeves and a lace trim lap cloth(a glorified handkerchief) still does something to me even today! As a teenager I loved seeing the ladies in church glide in on high stilettos and big umbrella hats! It was something to see. As I grew into a man I knew one day I wanted my own queen to rest on my arm as I walked in, with a hat as large as life and heels that were so high her calves screamed "GLORY" every time she took a stride. The church hat has been the crown of African American women for decades, and though I see it fading fast I still long for the mysterious allure of the hat itself.
Resting upon the heads of powerful women so reserved but whose presence alone could cast out all fear! My preference was always slanted giving you one eye to see. Ha ha ha ha! The mystery of the the woman who only showed you what she wanted you to see, told secrets that only her lover(spouse) could hear through her walk, as she glided. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Yes! the church hat, bent, folded, bowed, ribboned, or laced, the church hat told you things about its wearer that only certain individuals could understand, as the hats had a language all their own.
For years these women have been gracing the platforms and pulpits of our Churches, singing for our elite and, stirring us up with their individual gifts and their collective gift as a family.
In my opinion there is nothing more versatile then the pink and white acrylic nail! Dressed up or in jeans and a tee shirt pink and white nails are the sure to make a statement all on their own. Filed down to active length, or ovaled they are still nice to look at!
